Fire Station Fitness Fundraiser!
The North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service in York are always on hand in an emergency and as a city we could not do without them. They are now on a mission to make fire stations a more integrated part of the community too.
They heard about us offering free pop-up workouts throughout the city, and suddenly had a light bulb moment. Keen to make their space available to community groups, the Fire and Rescue Service offered Move the Masses their 'appliance room', the large garage space where emergency vehicles are usually housed, as a place for where we could offer workouts.
In 2018 we ran a brilliant pop-up workout in the station, as two free circuits classes where we asked for donations to raise money for the charity. These fundraising sessions were so successful that we'll be running one on the first Tuesday of every month throughout 2019, starting from the 5th February.
Stuart Simpson, Group Manager of York and Selby FRS, said “We are really pleased to be able to support Move the Masses and are delighted to be using our Acomb Fire Station to host fitness sessions, and to invite members of the community to come and improve their fitness.”
We're inviting local fitness professionals to host a session or two for us, and we're delighted to already have Katie and Mark from Yorkshire Fitness on board, who'll be kicking off the first session in February. Katie and Mark are fundraising for us here.
